AUGUSTA — The “Concerts at Jewett” Series, sponsored by University of Maine at Augusta College of Arts and Sciences and UMA Senior College, will feature Novel Jazz in “Duke & Swee’Pea — Love You Madly” at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at UMA Jewett Hall Auditorium.

Led by Barney Balch, this popular 7-piece jazz band, with members from all over Maine, will present its specialty: the music and history of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Balch has transcribed some of their lesser known gems with an aim to reinterpret them with a 21st-century sound. In addition to researching and arranging pieces, Balch plays tenor, alto and soprano trombone.

Other members of the group include Mike Mitchell playing trumpet, cornet and flugelhorn; Bill Manning on drums and percussion; Herb Maine on bass; David Clarke on guitar; Mickey Felder on piano; and saxophonist Sean Potter.

Tickets are $10, students $5, 12 and under free. Tickets are available at Pat’s Pizza in Augusta, Dave’s Appliance in Winthrop and at the door. FMI, tickets: 207-621-3551 or email umasc@maine.edu. Website: www.concertsatjewett.com
