Update: Jay teen charged in rock throwing incident
JAY — A 16-year-old boy is accused of throwing a rock through the window of a Regional School Unit 73 bus Tuesday afternoon, hitting a 9-year-old girl, Police Chief Richard Caton IV said Wednesday.
The Spruce Mountain High School student threw the rock through a driver’s side window from Macomber Hill Road, near the intersection of Main Street/Route 4 in North Jay, Caton said.
The rock hit the girl in the head and went through a window on the other side of the bus, Caton said. The girl received a bump and several cuts, some from glass, and was taken by a parent to a hospital, he said.
The incident remains under investigation, Caton said.
The bus was being driven by Marie Sayce, 48, of Jay when the incident occurred at about 3:10 p.m.
RSU 73 Superintendent Kenneth Healey said, “The appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.”
