LEWISTON — Ways that religion is sometimes harmful will be explored at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at Lifetree Cafe, 1919 Lisbon Road.

The program, “Toxic Faith: When Religion Hurts,” will feature a filmed interview with Sam Brower, the private investigator who cracked open the case that led to the arrest of Warren Jeffs, the leader of the polygamous Fundamentalist Church of Latter-Day Saints.

“It was unbelievable to discover there is this completely lawless town in America that is run by a church and a dictator,” said Brower. “(Jeffs) manipulated people and could get them to do what he wanted through their faith and beliefs.”

Participants will discover three key factors that are often associated with toxic faith.

Admission to the 60-minute event is free.
