TURNER — Turner Museum and Historical Association invites the public to hear Ronald Beedy talk about his tour of duty during the Vietnam War.
The presentation, which includes personal color slides, will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Community Room of the Leavitt Institute Building, 98 Matthews Way.
Beedy recently authored “Memories of a Manchu Vietnam 1967-1968,” a book about his service as a platoon leader with the 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Manchus, 25th Infantry Division.
His words 50 years later will provide images of the jungles, mountains and rice paddies of Vietnam where his Manchu battalion conducted their operations.
Beedy was raised in Hartford and graduated from Leavitt Institute in 1961 and the University of Maine at Farmington in 1971. He is also a graduate of the Infantry Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, where he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
After his service he returned home to marry his sweetheart, Barbara Varney, of Turner and together they raised three sons, Brad (Ron), Jo and Tom.
Beedy is well known for his career as a history teacher and coach in Livermore Falls.
