Athletes who kneel during the national anthem are not being disrespectful; they are petitioning for a redress of grievances. It is the highest form of protest that I can imagine.

Those who cannot or will not see that need to look into their hearts. “The land of the free and the home of the brave” is a reality to many, but not to all.

The athletes have touched a nerve by calling attention to America’s greatest failing. Perhaps the patriotism of those who are upset by the protests is tinged with prejudice.

What is disrespectful is turning one’s back and walking out.
