Winning gross team, Team Rodrigue & Son Painting, Inc.

LEWISTON  — The Central Maine Medical Center (CMMC) 25th Anniversary Fall Golf Classic held on Wednesday, October 4 at Martindale Country Club raised $93,600 for the Cancer CARE (Clinical, Assistance, Resources, Education) Fund.

Foursomes comprised of 26 supporting sponsors took to the course for a day of competition and philanthropy. Tournament major sponsors included Presenting Sponsor, Kaufman Hall; Platinum Sponsor, UnitedHealthcare (UMR); Gold Sponsor, Cerner Corporation and Founding Sponsor, Cross Insurance. The tournament structure included a bag valet service, continental breakfast, barbecue lunch, hors d’oeuvres and a gift for each player. The tournament also featured an air cannon in which players could opt to shoot on a par 4, which raised nearly $1,000 for cancer care.

Jeff Brickman, President and CEO of Central Maine Healthcare (CMH), presented two employees in cancer care with the first Fall Golf Classic Iron Award, which recognizes any CMH employee who has demonstrated outstanding effort, excellence and contributions to CMH. Karen DeGrandpre and Kailie Sullivan are cancer care social workers who ensure each CMH cancer patient get the help they need, often through direct counseling or referrals to community resources. Both were honored for their work as the first Iron Award recipients.

Team Cerner Corporation – Brian Strok, Ray Wieczerzak; 2. Team Harvard Pilgrim – Amanda McAlister, Nicole Fairweather, Steve Connely, Steven Larrabee; 3. Team Androscoggin Bank – Paul Andersen, Jenny Arnold, Jay Menario, Steve Bonville.

Other winners include: Grand Raffle Prize – Bill Demianiuk; Air Cannon Closest to the Pin – Logan Rossignol; Grand Putt Off – Brian Erenen; Longest Drive Men – Dylan Rodrigue; Longest Drive Women – Amanda McAlister; Closest to the Pin: Men – Paul Gosselin; Women – Amanda McAlister.

Funds raised from the golf tournament will benefit the Cancer CARE Fund, which was created to provide flexible support in cancer care to be used where the need is the greatest. The Cancer CARE Fund can be used in any area of cancer care including but not limited to clinics, programs, education, patient financial assistance, technology, equipment, space upgrades, and more—to provide the best care possible for cancer patients throughout central Maine.
