As soon as received they will be placed in operation on the local lines of the company. The cars are of the most recent design and will be a distinct addition to the rolling stock of the company. Workmen of the Auburn Water District located early Wednesday a major water main break near Turner Street. More than 100 homes were affected by the break, which apparently occurred after 10 p.m. A spokesman for the Water District reported that it received calls from homes on Lake Auburn Avenue to East Auburn and all along Center Street. At least 15 men worked to locate the break, which took about three hours. The spokesman said that the break was in a main running through a field off Turner Street. He noted that one person had reported a greater than normal amount of water flowing in a brook near the Winter Farm.

Starting Monday, the outer lane of the South Bridge from Lewiston heading into New Auburn will be closed for repairs. The bridge crosses the Androscoggin River on Cedar Street, connecting Lewiston to Broad Street in New Auburn. Gary Hoar, acting bridge maintenance engineer for the Maine Department of Transportation, said Friday the repairs could take as long as four weeks. Hoar said DOT engineers noticed the pavement was breaking up and concluded repairs were needed immediately to get the bridge ready for winter. “Part of the job will be to replace the bituminous wearing surface and this must be accomplished before the weather becomes too cold,” said Hoar.
