Wilton man charged in drug case

FARMINGTON — A Wilton man was indicted Wednesday in a case in which a Farmington woman overdosed twice in two days in July on what she told police she believed was heroin.

Jeremiah Dean Paulton, 35, was officially charged on a Class C count of conspiracy to commit trafficking. A conviction on the charge is punishable by a maximum five of years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

Farmington police Detective Darin Gilbert arrested Paulton on Aug. 31, following an investigation.

Police were called to a residence on Davis Road in Farmington on July 12, and found a 29-year-old woman suspected of overdosing who was unresponsive. Police used Narcan to revive her, according to Gilbert’s affidavit filed with the court.

During the investigation the woman was interviewed and “admitted that she had overdosed on what she believed was heroin,” Gilbert wrote

Two days later, police were again called to the woman’s residence for a suspected overdose. The woman was not breathing and had no pulse. Police again revived her with Narcan, according to the affidavit.

She told police she had used heroin again, Gilbert wrote.

The investigation revealed Paulton and the woman had daily communication, he wrote.

“Mr. Paulton appears to be (the woman’s) source of heroin by the context of their messages,” Gilbert wrote.

Paulton was released on personal recognizance bail and a supervised release agreement on Sept. 1.

He was convicted of manslaughter in 2000 and terrorizing in 2009.

Paulton was 16 when he was charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Blaine Jasper in Farmington. He served 19 months in juvenile detention before he was charged as an adult at age 17 and pleaded guilty to a manslaughter charge in 2000.

He was sentenced to 20 years in prison with all but seven years suspended followed by six years of probation. A Franklin County judge found Paulton guilty in 2009 of terrorizing for threatening to kill the mother of his child in 2008 and for violating his probation in the manslaughter case. He was sentenced to serve six more years of the remaining sentence in the manslaughter conviction.
