OXFORD — Former Selectman Caldwell Jackson won election to the board Tuesday over emergency room nurse Samantha Hewey. The vote was 549-471.
Jackson will be sworn into office Thursday evening, Town Clerk Elizabeth Olsen said Wednesday afternoon. He will serve the remaining one year and nine months left on Scott Owens’ term, Olsen said. The term expires June 30, 2019.
Jackson served on the board from 1993-2002 and from 2004-2006.
Calling it “a very good race,” Jackson said Hewey was a “good opponent.” He praised voters for the large turnout of 1,040 who cast ballots.
Hewey congratulated Jackson and said she was very pleased with the vote and intends to run for one of two seats on the Board of Selectmen opening in June 2018.
The terms of Selectmen Peter Laverdiere and Scott Hunter expire next year.
Floyd Thayer and Ed Knightly are the other selectmen.
