A store opening of more than ordinary importance takes place Friday morning at 9 o’clock when the American Clothing Company, which will occupy the store recently operated by White and Westall, makes its initial bow to the Lewiston and Auburn public. The Lewiston store is the fourth in a chain and has been fitted up as completely and handsomely as any store of its kind in Maine.

(Photo Caption) A three-story apartment building at the corner of Oak and Bates streets, Lewiston was torn down today in the Urban Renewal Authority area. Two more buildings are scheduled in be razed under the present contract with the Lewiston Crushed Stone Co. The frame building which came down today was located on land destined for municipal use, but the city fathers have yet to decide what use will he made of the land. There had been thought that a new fire station would be erected on the site but this has apparently been abandoned. Recently. trustees of the Lewiston Public Library expressed interest in the lot, possibly as the site of a new library building.

New Beginnings, an organization dedicated to helping young men and women in need, has opened a satellite office in downtown Lewiston to better meet the needs of the people they serve. The new 546 square-foot office, located at 236 Lisbon St., will bring the organization’s outreach program closer to the population of homeless youth in the area, according to the organization’s support services director, Ray Cook. And, it increases to four the number of locations from which New Beginnings’ many youth services programs are currently run. Founded in 1980, New Beginnings operates a youth shelter, transitional housing and its administrative offices in Lewiston.
