AUBURN — Catherine R. (Hurley) Brown, 66, of Rumford, passed away on Monday, Nov. 20, at Clover Health Care, Auburn. She suffers no longer with the cancer that spread throughout, and she is at peace.
Cathy was born Jan. 11, 1951, the third of seven children to Edward and Ruth (Emery) Hurley, in Rumford. She was in the last graduating class from Stephens High School in Rumford in 1969. From there, she began her adventures into adulthood by moving to Portland. She was married to Alton Brown, and they had two children, both gifts: one a birthday present, Elizabeth, born on Cathy’s birthday and the second, a Christmas present, Jake, born on Christmas Eve.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Dennis Leavitt; and her son, Jake Brown and his partner, Sheila Stovall; also surviving her are three grandchildren, Kayla Plowman and her husband, Jeremy, Forrest and Adam Leavitt; and two great-grandsons, Gavin and Finley Plowman.
Cathy is also survived by her six siblings, Eleanor Bulger and husband, David of Prince Edward Island, Susan Cassidy and husband, Jim of Kenai, Ala., Eddie Hurley and his husband, David Sherman of Portland, Mary Ayling of Portland, Patrick Hurley of Maine and Penang, Malaysia, and Joe Hurley and wife, Sandy of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; as well as her many nieces and nephews who loved their Aunt Cathy dearly.
