LEWISTON — Joseph F. White, 65, was called home suddenly by his Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 24, at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, surrounded by his loving family. He was a resident of Virgin Street in Rumford.

Joseph was born in Rumford on Feb. 27, 1952, the son of Joseph and Mary (Poltorick) White. He was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1971, and attended the University of Maine at Orono.

Joe worked for the Department of Transportation for over 45 years starting out as a highway worker and paver operator, advancing up to highway foreman, and most recently, worked as crew leader at the Bethel garage.

He was a member of the Peru Baptist Church; he loved his camp at Garland Pond, which he helped build and had many fond memories with family and friends there; he loved creative woodworking, being outside, traveling — especially to Nova Scotia — children, music and panning for gold, and most importantly, family. Joe was a kind, active and outgoing person.

He was married in Mexico on Nov. 10, 1979, to the love of his life, Rebecah Voter White, who survives, of Rumford. They recently celebrated 38 years of marriage.

Other survivors include his mother, Mary White of Byron; his beloved children: daughter, Angela White of Rumford, son, Joseph White and wife, Kristy of Sabattus, daughter, Bonnie White, of Rumford, and fiance, Mark Irving of Clinton, son, Kevin White and wife, Alexandra of Canton; grandsons and Bampy’s fishing buddies, Isaac, Aaron and Nathan White of Sabattus; his sisters, Irene Haynes and husband, Rocky of Rumford, MaryAnne Schrempf and husband, Stephen of New Hampshire, Carol Theresa North and husband, Tim of Rumford, Susan Dzinski and husband, Mike of Rangeley, Barbara Wilhoite and husband, Jacky of Newport, Rosey Susbury and husband, Robert of Byron; a brother, John White and wife, Andrea of Bryant Pond; sisters-in-law, Beth Voter of Mexico, Marsha White of Peru and Tammy White of Peru, Debbie Jamison and companion, Ron Tyler of Milton Plantation; his fur babies, Huckleberry Hound, Daisy and Stanley.

He was predeceased by his father, Joseph White; siblings, Arthur, William and Joanne White; and father- and mother-in-law, Russell and Ruth Voter.
