READFIELD — Classes and activities at Maranacook Community Middle and High School were canceled Tuesday because of an anonymous threat on social media, according to the Regional School Unit 38 Facebook page.

The elementary schools in the district are open.

“Due to a concern for campus safety, there will not be school today, November 28 at the middle school and high school,” according to the post. “Middle school and high school students and staff should not report to school, as the schools will be closed. Additionally, there will be no activities after school today. Planned activities will be rescheduled.”

The information indicates that last night, a threat was reported to high school administrators. It appeared to come from a Madison County High School student in Kentucky and police have been called to investigate.

“We will continue to work with law enforcement to ensure our campus is safe for our students,” according to the post.
