To read all the glowing letters to the editor supporting Ben Chin for mayor of Lewiston, one would think he was the next coming.
In reality, this is not a run for the presidency, or anything chose to that; and whoever wins will have little power to do any of the things Chin has proposed to do. It is pie in the sky.
As mayor, the job will be to preside over city council meetings, vote to break ties and represent the city at events and to potential investors. He will also set the tone for the direction in which the city will be going — pro-business and jobs, or more welfare.
I would rather have an individual who has served on the city council and knows how to work with councilors, regardless of their political affiliation, to move this city forward.
I will be voting for Shane Bouchard for mayor.
