UPDATE: Police identify Lewiston man as victim in fatal hit and run

LEWISTON — Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run accident on Pleasant Street early Sunday morning.

The man, who has not been identified, was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Mitchell Street.

Witnesses described the vehicle involved as a white SUV that left the scene.

A local resident, who declined to give his name, said he could see blood in the street where the body had been.

“Everyone gets off the turnpike and gets on this road flying,” he said.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Lewiston police.
