CHESTERVILLE — Bail was set at $2,000 cash Monday afternoon for a Carthage man charged in a 10-hour standoff with police Saturday night.
Vance Billings, 41, of Carthage was charged with aggravated criminal trespassing, aggravated criminal mischief and violation of bail conditions, after an incident at a mobile home on Horseshoe Pond Road, Steve McCausland, spokesman of the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release.

McCausland said Billings surrendered to the state police tactical team after being holed up in the mobile home of another man whom he assaulted earlier in the day. The victim had left the home earlier and was treated at a hospital and released.
Billings had a high-powered pellet gun and a crossbow inside the man’s home and refused to talk to police during the day, McCausland said.
Billings was convicted in 2006 in a Farmington court on charges of assault on an officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He was sentenced to three years in prison with all but six months suspended and two years probation.
In 2010, he was charged with two counts of misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and one count each of misdemeanor criminal trespassing, resisting arrest and criminal threatening.
