LEWISTON — A South Paris man who was stabbed while getting a haircut Wednesday evening was continuing to be treated for life-threatening wounds Thursday, authorities said.

Rashad Robinson, 35, was stabbed in the stomach and chest while sitting in a barber’s chair at Major Cuts on Chestnut Street shortly before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Police arrested Michael Barrucci, 23, of Otisfield on a charge of elevated aggravated assault, a felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Barrucci is expected to appear in 8th District Court on Friday afternoon on that charge. He was held at Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn in lieu of $500,000 cash bail.

Investigators said Barrucci is dating Robinson’s estranged wife, who was also in the salon when the stabbing took place.

Robinson was taken to Central Maine Medical Center for treatment.

On Thursday, the barbershop was closed, its door locked and the blinds drawn. A sign in the window read that the shop would remain closed until Monday.

“We are very sorry for the inconvenien(ce) this may cause,” the sign read. “It has always been our pleasure to satisfy our customer as well as our community.”

The sign asks that all questions be held until Monday.

Maine State Police took charge of the scene later in the evening Wednesday, likely because at that time, the stabbing was a potential homicide.
