LEWISTON — Bernard J. Poirier, 86, of Rumford, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, at CMMC in Lewiston.
He was born in Mexico on Dec. 23, 1930, the son of Vincent and Mary (Arsenault) Poirier, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1950.
He served with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War.
Bernie was an assistant operator at the Rumford Falls Power Company and then in the Steam Recovery at Boise Cascade Paper Company for over 10 years until retirement in 1995, after more than 37 years.
He was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius – St. John Church, where he served as a Eucharistic minister and altar assistant. He was a member of the Boise Cascade 25 Year Club, Napoleon Ouellette Post 24 American Legion, Rumford Lodge 862 B.P.O.E., Oakdale Country Club, Chisholm Ski Club and Fr. Ambrose J. Barry Council 2091 K. of C.
He was married April 23, 1956, in Mexico, to Lorraine Arsenault, who survives of Rumford. Other survivors include a son, Gregory Poirier and wife, Shannon of Heber City, Utah; a daughter, Barbara Fix and husband, David of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren, Danielle and Brienne Poirier of Heber City, Utah and Talia and Kaylen Fix of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; sisters, Adrienne Law of Rumford, Bernadette Mickeriz and her companion, Dr. John Gallant of Rumford, and Marguerite Gaudet of Mexico; and was predeceased by two brothers, Alphonse Poirier and Albert Perry; and sister, Genevieve Fraser.
