CHESTERVILLE — Selectmen Thursday night voted to return to a one-day town meeting format and approved a request for a speed study on a portion of Route 156.

By a vote of 4-1, the board approved a town meeting date of Monday, March 12, 2018. Voting will be from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. During a supper from 6 to 7 p.m. the votes will be counted with business resuming at 7 p.m. Board Vice Chairwoman Tiffany Estabrook was opposed.

Dates for department head budget submissions, town report deadlines and Budget Committee meetings will be discussed at the Dec. 7 selectmen meeting.

The board unanimously voted to request a speed study on the portion of Route 156 between Locke Pond Road and the intersection with Zion’s Hill Road.

Residents in October had expressed concerns about the speed of vehicles in that area. The board recommended the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office be contacted to request a dynamic speed sign, which displays the speed of oncoming vehicles.

The sheriff’s office installed a sign from Oct. 16 to Nov. 14. The data collected were sufficient to request the speed study.

Estabrook said the speed study requested for Gordon Hill Road has been completed. The report should be available in about a week.

In other business, a notice was distributed about a Christmas party for Chesterville employees, board members and their significant others. The party will be held at the Town Office on Thursday, Dec. 14, at 5:30 p.m.
