MEXICO — Selectmen will hold a public hearing this month on Fire Chief Richie Jones’ proposal to bring back the Fire Department’s air horn.
The public hearing will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19, before the selectmen meeting.
Selectmen Cliff Stewart, TJ Williams and Byron Ouellette voted for the hearing; Richie Philbrick and Reggie Arsenault voted against it at the Dec. 5 meeting.
Jones said the air horn, which has not been used for more than 10 years, is back up and running after special batteries for the 24-volt system were purchased. He said when the air horn was working before, it was used daily at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Jones said he would like to start that practice once again, beginning on Jan. 1.
He said it could also be used in case of a public emergency. It will not be used for fire calls.
In other business, Town Manager Jack Gaudet said a slight change has been made to the Calvin Lyons Hall rental agreement. The change prohibits the use of recreational marijuana on town property to include town buildings.
The agreement prohibits use of alcohol, and tobacco products are prohibited within 50 feet of any town building.
Gaudet said the change was made after a party in the hall, which is in the basement of the town hall, when several people went to the parking lot to smoke recreational marijuana.
