RUMFORD — Systems Manager Brian Carrier and Technology Director Kevin Kaulback updated the RSU 10 board of directors Monday on the website and technology upgrades.

According to Kaulback, the Mountain Valley High School staff and students’ Chromebook computers received in mid-September are ready for their use. The tech department is also updating 100 old iPads from the high school and transferring them to Rumford Elementary School, Meroby Elementary School and Hartford-Sumner Elementary School for students to use.

Also in progress is an update of wireless networks and infrastructure at all three elementary schools and at Pennacook Learning Center. An upgrade of the point-of-sale software used for school lunch purchases has also been completed, Kaulback said.

Rumford and Meroby elementary schools, which have had no intercom systems, and Mountain Valley High School, which has a “poor” intercom system, are getting them up and running, he said.

An upgrade and expansion of camera systems in all district buildings is in the works. “The older buildings have so many entrances; there’s always a place for a new camera,” Kaulback said.

In other business, Mountain Valley High School Principal Matt Gilbert told the board about a Jobs for Maine Graduates opportunity. “The JMG partners with Maine’s public schools, community colleges and our university system to teach students how to overcome academic, economic and social barriers,” he said.

The JMG serves more than 7,000 students throughout Maine and is looking to partner with an Oxford County high school. Gilbert invited board members to join him Jan. 8 to meet with the president of JMG and with state Sen. Lisa Keim of Dixfield, Mountain Valley High School teachers and Mountain Valley business owners to gather more information about the JMG opportunity.

The board hired Deidre Cochran as an art teacher for Meroby Elementary School. Cochran most recently taught at Spurwink Elementary School and is a graduate of the University of Maine.

Kathleen Marshall was hired as a third-grade teacher at Meroby. Her most recent position was with Sweatt-Winter Early Childhood Care at the University of Maine at Farmington.
