RUMFORD — Anne May McKenna Dawson, 87, passed away peacefully at the Rumford Community Home on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

She was born in Rumford on Nov. 16, 1930. She was one of seven children; her only surviving sibling is Helen Gilbert of South Carolina. She was predeceased by brothers, Albert, Carl, Walter and Robert; and a sister, Jean.

She graduated from Mexico High School, Class of ’49. She lived in Mexico her entire life and was a lifelong communicant of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.

Anne was best-loved as the secretary of Meroby Elementary School, where she touched the lives of countless children. She also worked at Laverdiere’s and as secretary of the adult education program.

Anne raised four children. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joanne Dugas and husband, Jerry; also by her son, Michael Dawson. Surviving are her daughter, Gail Mahar and husband, Mike of Kennebunk; son, Mark Dawson and wife, Cindy of Roxbury. She was a loving grandmother to her six grandchildren, Stephanie Gammon, Dawn Maahs, Michael Dawson, Shawn Mahar, Sarah Yerxa and Lori Dawson; and she was ever so proud to be a “great-grammie” to her 10 great-grandchildren.
