LEWISTON — Lewiston police confirmed that five protesters were arrested at Sen. Susan Collins’ office Monday just after 5 p.m.
Police said the protesters refused to leave the office and were charged with criminal trespass. They were very cooperative and extremely polite, police said.
The protesters were taken to Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
They were identified by the jail as Scott Lovaas, 57, of Gorham; Albert Boyce, 65, of Vassalboro; Peggy Smith, 65, of Lincolnville; Jodi Hayashida, 43, of Auburn; and Peter Wohl, 71, of Oakland.
It was unknown late Monday if they were the only protesters at the office and what they were protesting.
