LIVERMORE — Selectpersons were given an update Tuesday night on Hathaway Hill Road, approved plowing the Livermore Community Center and were reminded the Town Office will close at noon this Friday.

Administrative Assistant Amy Byron said the early closure, already approved by the board, is needed to close out the books for the end of the year.

Selectperson Chairman Tom Gould said he has researched Hathaway Hill Road for a time period of the last hundred years but has not yet found anything definitive regarding its ownership.

He said if it was a county road that was turned over, the easement would have been left in place for public access.

“If the town discontinued it, it turns back to the property owners,” Gould said. “From what I can tell, it’s not a county road.”

Byron said research is also being done in regard to questions about Wyman and Butter Hill roads.

“The town is doing the right thing but more research is needed,” Gould said.

Livermore Community Center Association member Rene Grondin told the board the center is booked weekends. Paul Litalien, another association member, had been plowing but can no longer do it.

“We’ll do the shoveling and sanding,” Grondin said. “It’s rented both days all weekends. There’s no other place around to rent.”

Selectperson Wayne Timberlake said it is town property.

“Roger (Fernald, highway foreman) said after a storm is all over, he can go plow it out,” Timberlake said. “The roads have priority.”

Byron said the town has a lease agreement with the association. Plowing the center would be similar to the plowing arrangement for the library.
