LEWISTON — Georgette V. Gilbert, 87, died on Sunday, Dec. 24, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Georgette was born in Lewiston on Dec. 18, 1930, the daughter of Albert Lamontagne and Ida Croteau-Lamontagne. She attended St. Mary’s School. She worked at the mills and shoe factories, retiring from Knapp Shoe after 34 years of service.
She belonged to the Ladies of St. Ann’s, and was a lifelong member. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Church until its closing, and then transferred to Holy Family Church. While at St. Mary’s, she belonged to all three choirs and served on all activities of the church until its closing.
She was predeceased by her husband, Laurier L. Gilbert, whom she married July 30, 1949.
She leaves many nieces and nephews and their families, whom she loved as her own. She also leaves her wonderful neighbors and all of her many friends, for whom she had a great affection, and all of her bingo buddies, whom she loved very much.
She was predeceased by her parents; four sisters: Muriel Lamontagne, Joline Jourdain, Joanne Roberts and Antonia Crowell; one brother, Richard Lamontagne; two brothers-in-law: Roger Jourdain and Wilbur Crowell; and two sisters-in-law: Muriel Johnson and Lorraine Lavoie.
We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Mary’s Hospital who took care of her during her very short stay. We are truly appreciative of all the wonderful care she received. Please know that we love you all.
Friends and family are invited to share their memories and offer their condolences by visiting Georgette’s online guestbook at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com.
