BOWDOIN — Elroy T. Harvey Jr., born in Belfast on June 15, 1936, the son of Elroy and Evelyn (Dyer) Harvey, went home to the Lord on Dec. 30, 2017.
He was predeceased by his parents; a granddaughter, Evelyn Grace Harvey; brothers, Albert, Elmer, Eddy, Burton and Tom; and sisters, Ida, Wilma (Billy), Barbara and Alfreda.
He leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Rina Voisine Harvey; his three sons and their wives, Michael and Carol Harvey of Bowdoin, Gary and Victoria Harvey of Woolwich, and David and Michelle Harvey of Livermore Falls. He also leaves six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and two sisters and their husbands, Edith and husband, Lee Phillips of Belfast, Sharon and husband, Danny Corbett of Augusta, plus many nieces and nephews.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. After his discharge he studied barbering at Hanson’s Barber School in Lewiston. He also worked as security at BIW. He was a master barber at Freeman’s Barber Shop on Front Street in Bath. In 1975 he owned and operated his own shop, Jr’s Barber Shop, where he retired. Since he could never really retire, he went on to work part time at Ben’s Barber Shop and then Front Street Barber Shop. He was a storyteller and jokester which all of his clients loved.
“They’re handsome again” he’d say.
He was a life member of the VFW in Bath and a member of the Bath Elks.
