LEESBURG, Fla. — Richard “Sleepy” Follett Sr., 78, of Leesburg, Fla., passed on Monday, Jan. 1, in The Villages Hospital.

Born to Marshall and Grace (Morton) Follett on March 16, 1939, in Morris, N.Y., he lived 50-plus years on Megquier Hill, West Poland, raising his family and training and racing harness horses with his wife.

He was employed many years by A.C. Lawrence Leather Co., South Paris.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Faye (Gurney); two children, Richard Jr., of Leesburg, Fla., and a daughter, Fern-Lynn (Gregory Larsen), of Wales; two grandchildren, Savannah and Marshall. There are two surviving brothers, Merritt (Cindy), of Arkansas, and Neil (Heather,) of New York; one sister, Minerva, of Virginia.

The family always had many animals of all kinds, finally settling with his beloved cat, Miss Mia.

Everyone knew “Sleepy” as a loving, kind, undersrtanding, generous yet very quiet person who had a certain way with all animals as well as people. He fought a long, hard battle but is resting in peace now.

Deceased are his parents; and three brothers, Raymond (Rose), of Pennsylvania, Carl (Lorraine), of New York, and Stanley (Amy), of Florida.
