LEWISTON — A three-point win for the Bates College women’s basketball team came in part because of the 3-point shot.
Emily Freedland scored all 15 of her points in the second half on five 3s and Julia Middlebrook made her only 3-point attempt in the waning seconds of a 60-57 victory over Middlebury in NESCAC action at Alumni Gym on Friday night.
Nina Davenport scored a game-high 16 points for Bates (6-10, 1-2 NESCAC), which shot 40 percent from 3-point range (8-of-20).
The Panthers (12-3, 2-1) led by two at the half, but were out-scored by the Bobcats 18-12 in the third. Sarah Kaufman led Middlebury with 15 points.

Middlebury 82, Bates 76
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Visiting Bates got up on nationally ranked Middlebury early, but the Bobcats couldn’t hold onto an eight-point halftime and lost 82-76 at Pepin Gymnasium on Friday night.
Jack Daly scored a game-high 26 points for the No. 16 Panthers (10-3, 2-1 NESCAC), and he finished a rebound and two assists shy of a triple-double. He saved his best for last, grabbing an offensive rebound off a missed free throw and making the put-back for a four-point lead with 18 seconds to go.
Jeff Spellman led the Bobcats (8-7, 1-2) with 21 points, and James Mortimer added a career-high 20 in his first career start. He had 14 points by halftime to help stake Bates to a 43-35 lead.
