MEDFORD, Mass. — Sophomore Nick Gilpin made a layup with the shot clock winding down and 13 seconds remaining in regulation to give Bates a 77-75 win over Tufts in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Jumbos (12-5) led by six with 4:02 left in the contest. Sophomore Tom Coyne cut the deficit in half with a 3-pointer and tied the contest at 73 with another trey.

Luke Rogers put Tufts up by two with a layup, but the Bobcats (9-9) answered when Gilpin made a layup with 1:58 left for his first score of the afternoon.

Sophomore Jeff Spellman paced the Bobcats with 18 points, three rebounds and four assists on 9-of-15 shooting. Nick Lynch and Coyne chipped in with 12 points apeice, with Lynch grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

UMaine-Farmington 62, Green Mountain 55

POULTNEY, Vt. — Amir Moss recorded a team-leading 17 points as the University of Maine at Farmington dispatched Green Mountain 62-55 in men’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers (5-11) took a 34-26 halftime lead. Milani Hicks scored 14 points, while Isaac Witham added 12 points for Farmington.

Alex Sanchez tossed seven field goals, including four from beyond the arc, and added a free throw for a game-high 19 points for the Eagles (6-9) in the losing effort.

Women’s basketball

UMaine-Farmignton 62, Green Mountain 55

POULTNEY, Vt.   — Green Mountain College attempted to overcome a late deficit but was thwarted by solid free-throw shooting from the University of Maine at Farmington as the Eagles dropped a 62-55 contest in women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Haley Felkel led the Beavers (5-11) with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting and also posted a robust 15 rebounds to complete a double-double.

Jenessa Talarico contributed 17 points, while Paige Carter grabbed 14 rebounds, including six on the offensive end. Morgan Crocker recorded nine points and six assists for Farmington.

CMCC 87, Massasoit Community College 58

BROCKTON, MASS — Jordyn Reynolds had 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Central Maine Community College women’s basketball team to a 87-58 victory over Massasoit Community College on Saturday.

Brooke Reynolds added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the victory, while Jane Lester chipped in with 12 points of her own. Kristina Blais and Cagney O’Brien each had 10 points for the Mustangs (16-1).

Tufts 67, Bates 28

LEWISTON — Jac Knapp tossed a team-high 17 points as Tufts rolled to a 67-28 victory over Bates in NESCAC women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Jumbos (16-2) outrebounded Bates by a margin of 57-27, outscored Bates 38-6 in the paint and held the Bobcats (7-12) to a season-low 19.0 percent shooting from the floor.

Nina Davenport scored 18 points for Bates on 7-of-24 shooting, including 3-of-13 from long distance. Julia Middlebrook added eight points.

Taylor McVeigh grabbed a team-high six rebounds and scored two points for Bates.
