OXFORD — The town received $1.7 million from the table games and slot operations at Oxford Casino in 2017, according the Maine Gambling Control Board. The amount is $115,852 more than in 2016.
According to the Gambling Control Board, the town’s 2 percent of the net slot operations was $1.37 million and from table games, $351,283, last year.
In 2016, it was $1.3 million from slots and $312,757 from table games.
According to the Gambling Control Board, as of Jan. 16 the town has received $50,795 from slots and $13,677.96.
Oxford Town Manager Butch Asselin said, “The revenues from the Oxford Casino are not designated for any specific purpose. As a result, any funds received are used to pay for service provided to the community such as police, fire, town office, transfer station, debt and tax relief.”
Asselin said officials anticipated casino money this fiscal year would be about $1.6 million.
Oxford County’s take in casino revenue was up by about $58,000 in 2017, compared to 2016. The host county gets 1 percent of revenue from slots and table games.
The amounts for 2017 were $687,228 from slots and $175,640 from tables, for a total of $862,868.
The county has traditionally used most of the money for tax relief and some to replace vehicles.
Last year, Oxford County Administrator Scott Cole said the county drew $50,000 each month for tax relief.
