LEWISTON — Despite the Bates women’s basketball team scoring the final 10 points of the game, Wesleyan held on for a 47-46 victory in NESCAC action Friday evening.

With the Bobcats (7-13) down by one and 13 seconds remaining, Maeve Vitale was able to tip a pass into the backcourt. And then a last-second heave from senior Nina Davenport of Freeport missed the target, giving the Cardinals (13-5) the narrow victory.

Davenport led all scorers with 14 points on the night, and senior captain Lexie Nason pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds for Bates. Meanwhile, freshman Julia Middlebrook chipped in with 10 points off the bench to go along with six rebounds, a team-high three assists and two steals.
