LEWISTON — Joseph D. Lagasse, 76, formerly of Strong, died at Marshwood Nursing Center on Sunday, Jan. 21, with his family at his side. He was the son of Dominique and Mable LaChapelle Lagasse. He went to Holy Cross and Lewiston high schools, graduating in the class of 1959. Enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1959, he was a member of the 101st Airborne.
After the Army, he worked as a mechanic for local printing companies. Joe enjoyed country music, football, four-wheeling, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, growing his own vegetables in his garden and in his younger years he liked camping and hiking.
Survivors include two sisters: Rita Berry of Lisbon and Jean and her husband, Dave Estrella, of Fort Peirce, Fla.; two daughters: Laurie Ann Lagasse Hudson of Auburn and Suzanne Lagasse of Auburn; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his extended family. Beside his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his brother, Roger Lagasse.
