RUMFORD — Geraldine P. Mawhinney, 84, of Rumford and formerly of Auburn and Portland, died Thursday, Jan. 25, at the Rumford Community Home.
Geraldine was born Nov. 13, 1933, in Rumford, the daughter of David and Priscilla (Weeks) Mawhinney, and was a graduate of Mexico High School, Class of 1951.
She worked for Pan Am Airways as a flight attendant for many years, then at Jordan Marsh and Linen & Things as a sales clerk in Portland and also as a secretary for the Rumford Paper Mill at their Portland office. She was a member of the Mexico First Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She loved her cat, “Charlie.”
Survivors include a brother, Rayfield Mawhinney, of Rumford; nephews, Erik Mawhinney of Peru, Doug Mawhinney of Chattanooga, Tenn., William “Bill” Baltrus of Norridgewock, and David “Randy” Mawhinney of Augusta, and David Mawhinney of Augusta; nieces, Jan Arsenault of Jay, Patty Coolidge of Mexico, Jaime Plante of Mexico, Jill Lehr of Fernley, Nev., Kim Mawhinney-Sandah of Reno, Nev., Angela Woods of Peru, and Megan Mawhinney of Augusta; and was predeceased by her parents; a brother, David Mawhinney; nephews, Joseph and Michael Mawhinney; and a niece, Jessica Brian.
