A Harpswell man was sentenced Monday to more than four years in prison for stealing guns from a Brunswick dealer.

A judge in U.S. District Court in Portland sent Hyunkook Korsiak, 36, to federal prison for 52 months for theft of firearms from a federally licensed dealer. He pleaded to the charge in September.

Korsiak stole six pistols from C&R Trading Post on Old Portland Road in Brunswick on Jan. 3, 2017, according to court papers.

When local police responded to a burglar alarm at the store, they noticed a broken window near the entrance and footprints in the snow leading to several surveillance cameras that had been pointed skyward.

A police dog tracked to a nearby wooded area where footprints appeared to show movement in and out of the woods. Near the area where the footprints left the woods, several guns and a sledgehammer were found in the snow, prosecutors wrote in court papers. Drops of blood left in the snow were collected for forensic analysis.

The surveillance tape showed the suspect had broken the glass of a display case inside the store and took six pistols, the same number that had been found outside the store. They included two Kahrs, a Remington, two Glocks and a Sig Sauer.

The Maine State Crime Lab traced the blood evidence from the scene to Korsiak, according to court papers.

During an April 3 interview while he was held on a state probation violation, Korsiak told investigators that he had stolen the guns found outside the store. None of the guns had been made in Maine and were brought to Brunswick from outside the state, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Conley.

Korsiak had faced up to 10 years in federal prison on the charge.

The case was investigated by the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office; the Brunswick Police Department; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
