LEWISTON — Singer-songwriter Jim Gallant will perform his music in a free program from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Oasis of Music, Trinity Church, 247 Bates St.

As a member of the Seacoast Guitar Society, Gallant was a featured artist in their first finger style compilation CD titled “Seacoast Guitarist Vol 1.” Ron Silverstein of 20th Century Guitar Magazine writes, “A gifted acoustic guitarist, Jim Gallant’s fret board is both rhythmic and tuneful.”

Gallant’s song “The Don,” about the 1941 maritime tragedy that took place off the coast of Maine and claimed the lives of 34 people, mostly from the towns of Mexico and Rumford, was used as a theme song in the MPBN televised documentary “Gone: the Mystery of the Don.”

He recently finished his fourth CD, “Old Hat with a New Coat,” a collection of down home Americana songs. Cyrus Rhodes of The Muse’s Music says of his latest CD, “From start to finish ‘Old Hat with a New Coat’ by Jim Gallant is one impressive catalogue of music. The music is consistent, uplifting and extremely entertaining. Note for note, song for song there isn’t really a weak piece on this entire catalogue.”

Gallant’s versatility and skill as a performer has enabled him to share the stage with the likes of artists such as Doc Watson, Taj Mahal, Livingston Taylor, Jessie Colin Young, Dave Von Ronk, Mark Collie, the New Grass Revival, the Shaw Brothers and Bill Staines.

His down-to-earth sense of humor permeates throughout his shows and along with his mastery of finger style guitar and warm rich vocals, makes for an unforgettable evening.
