AUBURN — Jonathan R. Roberts, 70, of Lewiston, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Bolster Heights Health Care in Auburn.
Born to Kathleen and Gordon Roberts on Aug. 6, 1947, Jon attended the Locke Mills School K-6 and graduated from Woodstock High School in 1966.
A legend in his own mind, Jon preferred living in his own little world, rather than the one the rest of us share. In his mind he was a king, artist and scientist, who was constantly besieged by enemies, all jealous of him and his great works. Every once in awhile he would peek out at us and share some tidbit of wisdom. To those of us who knew him, these traits were endearing.
In his younger years Jon spent many days fishing with his brother, Lee. A time came when he was no longer steady on his feet and he had to give up fishing. But Jon had many yarns to tell of their adventures and “the ones that got away.”
Jon liked living in the city, as opposed to the small town where he grew up. He managed to live independently in Lewiston for many years, until failing health required him to enter an assisted living facility. Even there he continued on with his “art,” and was content as long as he had material to work with. He produced so much art, it had to be shipped to the “museum,” (a large, green, metal container out back).
Jon is survived by sisters, Beverly Bennett, of Bethel, and Eileen DuPont and her husband, Andre, of Gorham, N.H.; brothers, David and his wife, Donna, of N. Chelmsford, Mass., Lee, of Greenwood; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Ronny, of Princeton, Mass.
