NORWAY — Robert D. “Bob” McCartney, 77, of West Bethel, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, Feb. 3, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
He was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Bradenton, Fla., a son of, John R. and Catherine (Dennis) McCartney. He was educated in Michigan schools and after graduating from Niles High School, he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Bob’s passion was photography and he worked as a professional photographer in Boston for 30 years.
On June 21, 2003, he married Patricia, in Braintree, Mass., and in December of that year, moved to West Bethel. In retirement, he and Pat owned and operated the Pleasant River Motel in West Bethel, and he also drove a school bus for SAD 44.
He was the commander of the American Legion Post 81 in Bethel for several years. He was an avid golfer and dart player.
Bob had a kind and creative spirit in his endeavors resulting in that everyone who knew him, loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Pat, of West Bethel; sons, Kyle McCartney and his wife, Ralene, of MA and Mark McCartney and his wife, Claudia of NH; five grandsons; one great-grandson; a sister, Ruth McGuire, of FL; brothers, Tom and Patrick Pierce, both of IL. He was predeceased by his mother and a sister, Nancy Burgess.
