FARMINGTON — Mt. Blue’s Meghan Charles earned a KVAC Nordic skiing championship for the second consecutive day at Titcomb Mountain on Friday.

Charles followed up Thursday’s girls’ classic title with a first-place finish in Friday’s freestyle race, which she finished in 18:02.6, more than 30 seconds ahead of second-place Laura Parent of Maranacook.

The Black Bears, though, edged the Cougars for the team title by six points, 43-49, over the two days. Leavitt placed third and Oxford Hills was sixth.

Leavitt’s Tamra Benson (fifth), Mt. Blue’s Chelsea Seabold (sixth) and Gretchen Huish (eighth) also finished in the top 10.

Mt. Blue swept the top individual spots, as Mick Gurney won the boys’ race (16:09.7) by five seconds over Marancook’s Carter McPhedran.

Leavitt’s Roy Varney followed up his classical championship with a fifth place finish. Right behind him was Oxford Hills’ Cameron Bancroft in sixth and Mt. Blue’s Sam Smith in seventh. The Cougars had two other top-10 finishers, Sam Stinson (ninth) and Dominic Giampietro (10th).

Maranacook also had four top-10 showings, including places second through fourth, to claim boys’ team championship by six points over Mt. Blue. Leavitt finished third, followed by Oxford Hills in fourth and Edward Little in fifth.

Mt. Abram boys rule MVC

FARMINGTON — The Mt. Abram boys dominated the both days of the MVC Nordic skiing championship to claim the team championship at Titcomb Mountain on Friday.

The Roadrunners had five skiers place in the top 10 — Levi Bouchard (third), Brandon Hemingway (fourth), David Kidd (fifth), Dylan Starbird (sixth) and Dillon Wells (ninth) — in Friday’s freestyle race and finished with a two-day total of 36 points. Second-place Mountain Valley tallied 110 points.

As a team, Telstar was third, followed by Dirigo (fourth) and Spruce Mountain (fifth). Winthrop finished seventh and Monmouth was eighth.

Telstar’s Gaelan Boyle-Wight (16:39.6) followed up his classical championship Thursday with a second-place showing Friday, finishing two seconds behind Orono’s Sam Holt (16:37.6).

Monmouth’s Kyle Gunnells came in seventh, Winthrop’s Vincent Scott took eighth and Dirigo’s Damien Nadeau placed 10th.

Liza Gallant won the girls’ MVC freestyle race to lead Orono to the overall team title. Winthrop, led by Maya Deming’s fifth-place finish and Sam Allen’s ninth-place showing, took second. Monmouth was fourth, Dirigo fifth, Telstar sixth, Mountain Valley seventh and Mt. Abram came in eighth.

Monmouth’s Danielle Parker took seventh in the freestyle race, and Telstar’s Emily Hanscom finished eighth.

Maine Coast leading WMC

GRAY — The Maine Coast Waldorf boys and girls are both in first place after one day of the WMC Nordic skiing championships held at Libby Hill on Friday.

Sophia Laukli finished first in the 5-kilometer girls’ classic race with a time of 17:31.7. St. Dominic Academy’s Emily Gerencer placed 11th.

Maine Coast’s Nick Neveau (16:43.3) won the boys’ race. Gray-New Gloucester’s Mike Sutherland came in 20th, and teammate William Maines was 25th.

Unified basketball

Lewiston 41, Lisbon 31

LEWISTON — Nick Allen-Smith tossed a game-high 12 points to lead Lewiston to a 41-31 victory over Lisbon in unified basketball action Friday afternoon.

The Blue Devils were also powered by Noah Dixon with eight points and Hawa Doorow with six points. Theresa Morin and Zamond Smith combined for eight points for Lewiston.

The Greyhounds’ top scorers were Dawson Martel with 11 points and Michael Farrington with six points. Lynn Feely and Misty Coleman added six points together for Lisbon.

Boys’ hockey

Lewiston 3, Bangor 1

BANGOR — Three Blue Devils scored as Lewiston defeated Bangor 3-1 in a Class A North boys’ hockey game Friday.

Cam Dionne and Jack Leblond gave Lewiston a 2-0 lead in the first period. Hunter Neade cut the deficit in half at the 3:25 mark of the second period. Alex Robert added an unassisted insurance goal at the 7:50 mark of the middle frame.

Lewiston improves to 13-2 on the season while the Rams fall to 9-6.
