LEWISTON — Police arrested a Rhode Island man Friday, after reports of a threat made during a family dispute on Ash Street.

Police arrested 24-year-old Justin Botelho after a short foot chase near Veterans Memorial Park. He was charged with criminal mischief and refusing to submit to arrest.

Early reports were that someone was threatening a pregnant woman on Ash Street, an account that sent police to 111 Ash St. shortly after 1 p.m.

Some neighbors reported hearing gunshots while the drama unfolded.

Police said no one was hurt, but witnesses reported that a firearm may have been displayed during the dispute. The matter remained under investigation.

Minutes after police arrived, they cordoned off a parking lot on Pierce Street, near Ash Street. Investigators examined a station wagon with the rear window smashed out. They also used five evidence markers to note several small items on the ground, although it was not immediately clear if they had found shell casings at the scene.

Police did not say whether shots had been fired.

Botelho was being booked Friday afternoon at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn. In 2016, he was one of two people shot during a house party on Bowdoin Street in Auburn.
