DEAR SUN SPOTS: As you have so often done in the past, Sun Spots has helped Rebuilding Together L/A spread the word in the Lewiston, Auburn and surrounding areas as we appeal to those in our community who, for whatever reason, cannot accomplish needed repairs to allow them to live in safe and healthy homes.

That need still exists. Once again we appeal to those who need assistance as we begin to take applications for our Saturday, April 28, Rebuild Day.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing concerning the person who was looking for the house John Gould built in 1946 (Jan. 30 Sun Spots). The reader was probably looking at Lisbon Ridge on Route 9 for the house. The house is on Gould Road between Routes 9 and 125 on a curve on the right side going toward Route 125. John Gould wrote many books, and his wife had a flower shop on the property for a few years also. My husband grew up in the same neighborhood and I’ve lived in Lisbon since 1942.

DEAR SUNSPOTS: Are there any organizations that will take donated clothing to give to a homeless person? I’d like to know that the donation will be used and not resold.

ANSWER: Places where clothing is accepted and distributed to those in need in the Lewiston-Auburn area include: Lisbon Area Christian Outreach in Lisbon Falls (353-8019); Hope Haven Gospel Mission (783-6086); Center for Wisdom’s Women (513-3922); St. Martin DePorres Residence (786-4690); and Safe Voices (782-1785) all in Lewiston; Court Street Baptist Church (784-6661) in Auburn; and Hope House (577-1165). Many churches have “clothes closets” where they keep clothing for those who can’t afford to purchase it.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for a reputable business or person who repairs electric typewriters. It’s for a church and we haven’t been able to find anyone. We would appreciate any help.

ANSWER: Cosco Technologies on Bearce Road in Winthrop is the place you’re looking for. The number is 207-377-2897. This could be the only business in Maine where typewriters are still repaired. If I’m wrong, readers, be sure to let me know!
