SOUTH PARIS — Walter W. Crites Jr., 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 8, at Market Square Nursing Home in South Paris. He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 10, 1927, the son of the late Walter W. Sr. and Alyce (Dick) Crites.
Walter traveled all 50 states, but chose to call Maine his home with his family. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, was an Eagle Scout, a proud graduate of Tufts University. Walter was an avid skier and skied well into his 70s. Walter loved spending time at his camp on Kennebago Lake in Rangeley, where he would fly fish and spend time with his wife and family. He enjoyed his weekly coffee group, where they would work on solving all of the world’s problems. He was very active in the Auburn community organizations and many dental boards, including a longtime examiner on the Northeast Board of Dental Examiners. Many people will remember Walter for having his dental practice on Court Street in Auburn for many years.
Walter is survived by his two sons, Walter W. Crites III and William A. Crites; his daughter, Sandra (Crites) Raymond; his sister, Patricia Shaw; his granddaughter, Amy St. Hilaire; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of over 60 years, Jeanne (Wilde) Crites; his parents; his daughter, Carolyn Crites; and many of his friends.
Friends and family are invited to share their memories and offer their condolences by visiting Walter’s online guestbook at www.thefortingroupauburn.com.
