SOUTH PARIS — Mrs. Corinne Ackley, 93, died Monday, Feb. 12, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris. She resided in Sumner.

Born in Rumford on Oct. 24, 1924, she was a daughter of John and Ruth (Glover) Trenoweth. Corinne attended Rumford schools and worked for C.B. Cummings in Norway until her retirement.

Corinne loved the solitude, peace and tranquility living on Sumner Hill brought her, residing there for 72 years. She was a strong, independent woman who had a sense of adventure, as in the time she started raising chinchillas.

Corinne cherished her family and bringing her family together on her famous Christmas Eve celebrations brought her so much joy. She was a sociable person who loved entertaining guests, family and friends at her table. Wherever she went, she made new friends. Upon retiring, she started crafting and even became known as Mrs. Claus.

She enjoyed yard sales, gardening, playing cards and shopping. She loved to dance and enjoyed listening to music, especially Elvis. She never took for granted the simple things in life and cherished every day that she was able to sit on her porch in the sunshine. She especially liked watching wildlife under her pear trees.

Corinne was married in Rumford Center on Aug. 2, 1943, to Paul W. Ackley Sr., who died in Lewiston on March 26, 1993.
