Many readers of The Sun yesterday noticed a difference in the appearance of the paper. This was due to the fact that The Sun was printed on the new press for the first time. There has been a delay in getting part of the stereotyping machinery. This necessitates some rearrangement in the work of starting the new press. When the plant is complete The Sun will have splendid press facilities for producing a modern newspaper. The press which The Sun has out-grown and which has done such excellent work has been sold to Le Messager, the Lewiston tri-weekly French paper and will be erected in their plant on Lisbon Street in the near future.

Members of the Lewiston Fire Department went to the rescue of a dog which fell into the canal which crosses Lincoln Street in Lewiston. A witness reported that the dog didn’t need the assistance of firemen, and so the fire lads stood on the banks of the canal and watched — just “in case.” Captain Paul McGraw at the Lincoln Street Station said the canine swam downstream all the way to the gate at the end of Oxford Street, climbed onto a pack of ice, and then scurried up the banks of the canal. The incident was called to the attention of the firemen by a passer-by who reported that the dog had fallen in the cold waters.

Everybody’s favorite nice guy has learned what friends are for. Poland’s Santa Claus for the last four years, a.k.a. Frank Strout Sr., now has cash as well as sympathy following a fire that destroyed his family’s trailer home in West Poland two weeks ago. Last Saturday evening, 225 residents and friends attended three sittings of a ham supper to benefit the Strout family at the Excelsior Grange Hall. Larry Foster, president of the Santa Comes to Poland Committee, said Tuesday that citizen attendance added up to about $1,150 in funding to aid Strout’s current dilemma and in recognition of his longtime participation in community activities, including playing Santa for the volunteer Santa Comes to Poland Committee.
