When informed by a Lewiston Journal reporter Wednesday morning that former Mayor Brann, who termed one of Rev. W. A. Bartlett’s statements “absolutely false,” has not retracted his denial and has made no further comment. Dr. Bartlett said: “It is a serious matter when one man says that the statement of another is ‘absolutely false.’ It cannot rest here, both for the sake of the parties involved and the public generally. It may not be a pleasant task to prove another man in the wrong, but it devolves upon one who makes a statement, and the one who denies it to bring proof. This present controversy was not of my seeking but lies at Mr. Brann’s door, as he dragged me into it.”

Pictured is an artist’s rendering of the 100-unit housing for the elderly project which will be built in the near future by the Auburn housing authority. Each end of the facility will be five stories high and will feature efficiency and one-bedroom units. The center part of the structure will be six stories high because of administrative offices on the first floor along with community facilities for the occupants of the building. The building will be located at 74 Lake Auburn Avenue, site of the old corn factory, will be constructed of reinforced concrete, concrete blocks and brick facing, and will be financed by a $1.5 million federal loan.

More sewer lines in the Bosse Heights neighborhood will be replaced, street storm drains installed and sidewalks rebuilt by public works projects this year. In addition, potentially hazardous electrical wiring will be replaced at the City Building, Public works director Chris Branch said Friday. Sewer improvements on Malo and Bobby streets will represent the second phase of a Bosse Heights project that has already replaced inadequate lines on Talon and Bosse streets, Branch said. The project was recommended and funded to remedy problems with inflow, sagging lines and tree root infiltration.
