WEST PARIS — The First Universalist Church of West Paris will hold celebration, inspiration and worship at 9 a.m. Sundays in March followed by refreshments. Worship services are provided with a combination of guest speakers, the Worship Service Committee and the Rev. Fayre Stephenson, who leads worship services at least twice a month.
March 4: “Finding Hope in Broken Times” led by Stephenson. Using Kate Bowler’s “Everything Happens for a Reason: And Other Lies I’ve Loved” as a guide, the service will be an exploration of sense-making when there’s no sense to be made, on letting go and on being unafraid even when terrified.
March 11: “Where Is Jesus Now?” led by the Rev. Kate Braestrup, who has been a guest speaker at the church many times. Her topic is about the new season that is on its way. Braestrup divides her time between her service as chaplain to the Maine Warden Service and writing. In addition, she is a public speaker around the country and abroad. March 18: “Living Our Values Aloud, Not Alone” led by Stephenson. Individuals turn to yoga, nature and meditation to strengthen spirits. Still, something is missing. Where to turn to elevate collective ethical and spiritual health? The sermon will answer that question.
March 25: “Turning Toward the Sun — Rebirth of Light and the New Year.” A worship service with musician Jim Scott, who intersperses songs, personal reflections on the season with a spiritual, ecological awareness. Former co-chairman of the Unitarian Universalist (UU) Ministry for the Earth, Scott helped create the Green Sanctuary program now undertaken by many UU congregations. Scott is the creator of the Pete Seeger Songfest and member of the Paul Winter Consort, composing songs, including a favorite UU hymn, “Gather the Spirit.”
