FARMINGTON — Several tenants were displaced Monday night when a fire broke out in the attic of a six-unit apartment building at 119 Lake Ave., Farmington Fire Capt. Tim Hardy said Tuesday.

State fire investigators were working Tuesday to try to determine the cause of the fire.

No one was injured.

About 50 firefighters from four departments responded to the 8:59 p.m. report of a fire made by a tenant of the lower level of the building.

When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from the eaves of the building.  Firefighters went up into the attic and found the fire. 

“We were able to pretty much contain the fire to the attic,” Hardy said.

The first- and second-floor apartments received some water damage. There was water and smoke damage on the third floor and heavy fire damage in the attic, Hardy said.

None of the tenants requested help from the American Red Cross. They stayed with friends or family Monday night, Hardy said. 

He did not know whether the electricity would be turned on Tuesday. Yellow fire tape was still across the entrances to the building Tuesday morning. 

Michelle Lam of Wilton owns the building, which was insured, Hardy said. He was not sure whether the tenants had rental insurance.

Farmington firefighters were assisted by departments from Jay, Temple and Wilton.
