FARMINGTON — The Fire and Ice Festival is back Saturday.
And while recent warmer temperatures have forced event organizers to go “light” this year, there are still plenty of events for the entire family — even if a lack of snow has caused cancellation of the Franklin Savings Bank Tube Park, a main attraction every year.
Event organizer Anna Lyon said this week’s snowstorm will not have an effect on the event’s schedule.
“It might just make things look cleaner. We’ll have a nice blanket of white snow to make things look more festive,” Lyon said. “But unfortunately, it’s too little, too late for the tube park.”
Hosted by Franklin Savings Bank and Narrow Gauge Cinemas, the festival runs from 11 a.m to 3 p.m., with various activities throughout town.
A hay maze will be open from 11 a.m to 3 p.m at 198 Front St., on the lawn between the bank building and the parking lot, for folks to “get lost” in the fun. There will also be horse and wagon rides.
For those bringing their appetites, there will be cookie decorating at Big Sky Grill, 108 Narrow Gauge Square, and hot chocolate and popcorn at Franklin Savings Bank.
Free movies will be playing from 11:30 a.m to 2 p.m at the Narrow Gauge theater on Front Street, with sledding outside. The movie choices: “Jumanji,” “Early Man” or “Peter Rabbit.”
A scavenger hunt will take place from noon to 3 p.m at the railroad trestle, and there will be snowman-making and s’mores at Divine Inspirations on Front Street.
A demonstration from Flying High Dogs is planned for 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Train Depot parking lot.
Flying High Dogs features Mike Piazza, the top professional K-9 flying disc performer in the world, according to his website. Piazza performs a variety of tricks with his four border collies: Maui, Chaos, Bullet and Mojo.
“The act is very heavily consumed by audience participation,” Piazza said. “I try to get as many people involved as possible.”
He said folks should be most excited to see the newest addition to the Flying High family, 10-month-old Mojo. The dog has only participated in one show so far.
“He’s coming along, and shows very good promise,” Piazza said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how he’ll react in his second show.”
