100 years ago, 1918
A controlling interest in the Lewiston Handle Co., manufacturers of shovel handles, has been sold to the Ontario Steel Products Co. of Gananogue, Province of Ontario, Canada. The purchasers recently consolidated with the B. P. Jones Co., manufacturers of auto springs, axles, etc., for Ford and Canadian cars. F. B. Norris of Auburn, president and general manager of the Lewiston Handle Co., has been retained as manager.

50 years ago, 1968
The City of Auburn has three State Championship Ski teams again. In earlier action the ski team representing the Edward Little boys, and the one representing the ELHS girls copped crowns for the 1968 school year. Now, the Auburn Junior High School team coached by Don Towle has made it three for the season for Auburn combines. The State Junior High School Ski meet was held at Rumford, at which time the Auburn Junior High School team posted a total of 393.17 points — taking top honors in three of the four events of the meet.

25 years ago, 1993
Lewiston High School has been chosen as one of four sites for the 4th annual Maine Citizen Bee program, a high school civics education program and academic competition. The Citizen Bee, sponsored nationally by the Close-Up Foundation of Alexandria, Va., and coordinated in Maine by the Secretary of State’s Office, tests knowledge in a variety of subject areas, including American history, government, geography, culture and current events.
