LISBON — A design created by Emma Royle, 26, of Sanbornville, New Hampshire, was chosen as Moxie’s winning logo for their 2018 festival, according to a news release from the Moxie Festival website.

Royle’s design includes the Moxie logo, two versions of the iconic “Moxie Boy,” Red Sox slugger Ted Williams, and rarely seen characters from a 1926 ad and a 1950s Diet Moxie ad.

This year’s theme is Moxie Through the Decades, and Royle said she researched past advertising campaigns to incorporate into the design.

“We’re really pleased by the fun, vintage look of the logo,” Lisbon Economic Development Director Tracey Steuber said. “All the submissions were good, but when the committee saw this one, there was no further discussion. Everyone agreed it captured the spirit of this year’s festival theme.”

Royle will receive a $100 cash prize and the 2018 festival’s first printed T-shirt, and will serve as parade float judge, the news release said.

She has never been to the Moxie Festival but does occasionally drink the distinctively different beverage.

Royle said she’s been creating artwork since high school and works in pencil, pen and ink, oils, and digital art mediums. She also works full time at C&G Pizza in Sanbornville.

The Moxie Festival, celebrating Maine’s official soft drink, will be held July 13-15.
