AUBURN — Paul R. LaChapelle, 77, a longtime resident of Lewiston, passed away Monday, March 12, at Hospice House of Androscoggin in Auburn, with his children and best friend, Roger Royer, by his side. He was born March 28, 1940, in Auburn, the son of Alfred LaChapelle and Lena Anna (Defrense) LaChapelle. He was a 1959 graduate of Edward Little High School.

On June 10, 1961, at Holy Family, he married Yvette Gagne, of Lewiston. He worked in sales for Frito Lay, and later worked for St. Philip’s Church in Auburn as a custodian until his retirement in 2003. He was a communicant of St. Philip’s Church, St. Philip’s Family Group, St. Philip’s Town Meeting and served as president of the Parish Counsel from 1988-1989. Paul was a member of Knights of Columbus, Third Degree. He was an extremely involved member of the Lewiston-Auburn Jaycees from 1971-1974, having served as director and president.

He is survived by his children: Pauline Powell and her husband, Rick, of Gray; Rick LaChapelle and his wife, Monique, of Lewiston; and Joline Sawyer and her husband, Scott, of Northport, Florida; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Yvette LaChapelle; brothers Roland, Albert and Richard LaChapelle.
